Letters of Support

The DIG-UM guidelines say “The goal of its collaborative work is the joint implementation of the objectives stated in the community white paper Challenges and Opportunities of Digital Transformation in Fundamental Research on Universe and Matter - Recommendations of the ErUM Committees”. All efforts addressing the objectives are supported by DIG-UM.

Letters of support can be requested from the DIG-UM spokesperson. Requests should be sent at least two weeks before the letter is needed and include the following information

  • Who applies for what?
  • How does your proposal contribute to reaching the goals of DIG-UM?
    • How does your proposal integrate with current topics and tasks of DIG-UM?
    • What is your interaction with the DIG-UM communities and which scientific communities does your proposal address?
    • How could your proposal benefit the needs of the overall DIG-UM community?
  • Are competing applications addressing the goal of DIG-UM known or expected?

Suggestions of text for the letter are welcome, but not mandatory.

The spokesperson will write a draft and distribute it to the Digitization Board, giving it one week for feedback. In case of doubts if the criteria for support are fulfilled or in case of policy relevance for the ErUM communities the Overview Board will be informed, too. If there are no objections within one week the spokesperson will send the letter to the requester.

As all applications for ErUM-Data calls come from the DIG-UM community they are implicitly all supported, but no letters of support are issued for them.
